PHILIPPINES – The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) is planning to build desalination plants in the cities of Cebu, Mandau, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay and in the Municipality of Consolacion. The MCWD is aiming to have plants operational by December 2021 and supply 70,000 m3/d. The district’s board of directors has already approved bidding for the facilities and is planning to sign contracts and start construction of the plants this year. (Sunstar Cebu)

 

SAUDI ARABIA – The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has completed the construction and operation of seven desalination projects with a combined production capacity of 304,350 m3/d.

SWCC started production at the Al Shuqaiq desalination plant, which can produce water at a rate of 42,500 m3/d with a record low energy consumption of 3kW/m3. The Almlaj desalination plant was completed three months ahead of schedule and is operating at a rate of 25,000 m3/d.

The 25,500 m3/d Duba desalination plant has also launched operations as well as the new Farasan desalination plant that pumps 8,500 m3/d of desalinated water to residents of the province and its villages. In the Eastern Province, SWCC has finalized construction and started initial operation of Phase 1 of the Khobar desalination plant project, which has a production capacity of 210,000 m3/d.  (Construction Week)

 

AUSTRALIA – Water and wastewater treatment company De.mem has been awarded a $2.6 million contract to build a desalination plant for fruit and vegetable grower Sundrop Farms. De.mem did not reveal the location of the treatment plant, but the plant will be manufactured at De.mem’s Brisbane plant. Sundrop operates a $200 million facility near Port Augusta, which will be the likely site for the desalination plant. (@AuManufacturing)

INDIA – Chennai Metro Water is looking for international bidders to build a 400,000 m3/d desalination plant at Perur. A Chennai Metro Water official told The New Indian Express that the plant is expected to be operational by 2024 and is estimated to cost $815.48 million. The facility will be Chennai’s fourth desalination plant and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide financial assistance for the project. (The New Indian Express)
