U.S.A.The Bureau of Reclamation is awarding $3.6 million to 10 projects that seek to improve technologies for water supply development from non-traditional waters, including seawater, brackish groundwater and municipal wastewater. Reclamation selected six laboratory projects and four pilot-scale research projects. The $3.6 million will be matched by $5.3 million in non-federal funding to support the research projects. The Desalination and Water Purification Research Program supports President Biden’s new Executive Order on Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad. (WaterWorld)

 

MOROCCOA new desalination plant in Laayoune is expected to start operating by the end of June. Morocco’s National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) reported the investment around $41 million for the 26,000 m3/d plant which will provide drinking water to the 230,000 residents of Laayoune and its neighbouring populations until 2040. U.S.A.A barge off East beach in Santa Barbara is repairing the city’s water desalination piping. According to Santa Barbara’s Water Quality Superintendent, the repair works is routine maintenance on the piping that happens every couple of years. Two weeks ago, a problem with the intake piping was noticed when it got turned off because of poor water quality in the ocean. Now the repair team is hoping to get two projects done at once, while doing some repairs on the pumps and investigating the other pump that is down there. (Keyt.com)
